PMP Requirements



Here are the requirements needed to successfully apply for the PMP Examination:

PMP® Prerequisites
  • Secondary degree (high school diploma, associate's degree or the global equivalent)
  • 7,500 hours leading and directing projects (187.5 weeks (assuming 40 hour/work week) / 3.90 years (assuming 48 project weeks/year))
  • 35 hours of project management education
or
  • Four-year degree
  • 4,500 hours leading and directing projects(112.5 weeks (assuming 40 hour/work week) / 2.34 years (assuming 48 project weeks/year))
  • 35 hours of project management education

35 Hours of Project Management Education
At least 35 hours of formal project management education is necessary to qualify for the PMP. This education must be:
  • Consistent with topics included within the PMP Exam Format
  • Demonstrated through successful completion of courses, workshops, and/or training sessions that include some form of assessment or certificate of completion
  • Obtained in advance of submitting your application but could have been accrued at any point in the past.

Tip: Do not include forms of self-directed learning or attendance at meetings/presentations as contact hours - these will not be accepted.
